Fostering inclusive environment for Persons with Disabilities

To raise awareness and promote the well-being of the persons with disabilities in the province, the Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office observed the Persons with Disabilities Day on December 15, 2024 at the Capitol Gym, Dalakit, Catarman.

The celebration was empowering, with PWD artists and athletes expressing their talents through music, dance, and demonstration of adaptive sports such as basketball, badminton, and chess. The activity builds up their self-esteem as they are encouraged to showcase what they can do and excel at.

Judge Albert Yruma, keynote speaker of the event, shared important insights in assistive technology; importance of early intervention; and breaking down societal barriers. Judge Yruma's talk centered on the assistance that PWDs need from the community to facilitate their mainstreaming into the society.

Through the program, the Provincial Government hopes to make a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities in the province by breaking down barriers and fostering inclusivity, so they can live in harmony with the community.
