As part of the Provincial Government's efforts to stengthen
disaster response, Vice Governor Clarence Dato recently paid a courtesy visit
to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Command Center where he
met with MMDA Chair Romando Artes, a fellow lawyer, and new MMDA General
Manager Nicolas Torre III. He first knew GM Torre when he was the PNP
Provincial Director of Samar some years back.
During the visit, Vice Governor Dato was ushered to and
given the opportunity to see the state-of-the-art MMDA Command Center where
traffic operations and management of the entire Metro Manila takes place. He
thanked MMDA for committing to continuously support Northern Samar in its
disaster response, mentioning its plan to include Northern Samar's Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Personnel in its upcoming DRR operations
management capacity development programs. MMDA will be opening its DRR Preparedness
Training Center in Cavite soon.
In the 2023 shearline-induced flooding in Northern Samar,
MMDA was among those who first came to the aid of the province.
Under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan, the
Provincial Government hopes of the continued partnership with MMDA.
