The residents of Brgys. Veriato and Caglanipao of San
Isidro, Northern Samar had a good opportunity to air out questions, concerns
and recommendations on the Wind Power Project during the Public Hearing held
yesterday, April 22, 2026 in Brgy. Veriato, promoting transparency, community
participation and open dialogue.
Convening residents of the affected barangays, Sangguniang
Panlalawigan Members, Municipal Councilors and Brgy. Officials, the Provincial
Government through the SP Committee on Energy, Utilities and Franchises chaired
by Board Member Emil Ongchuan, facilitated a fruitful dialogue where Gemini
Wind Energy Corp. explained the scope and components of the project while
residents asked questions and shared their thoughts on its long-term impact to
their livelihood, safety, and the environment.
The 304-megawatt wind energy project involves the
installation of wind turbines in the boundary of San Isidro, Northern Samar,
expanding to parts of Calbayog City, to include the construction of a concrete
access road leading to the turbines.
The dialogue highlighted the importance of collaboration
between local communities, government officials, and private sector partners in
pursuing sustainable development initiatives, demonstrating the community’s
willingness to engage in projects that balance development with environmental
responsibility.
Present were Board Members Dexter Galit, Gina Silvano,
Vicvic Singzon, Acela Layug, and Don Abalon, San Isidro Municipal Councilors,
Brgy. Officials as well as Provincial Economic Development and Investment
Promotions Officer Jhon Allen Berbon, OIC PPDC Jay Keenson Acebuche, OIC
Secretary to the SP Bernard Balanquit, and Provincial Legal Office
representatives.
Aligned with the province’s commitment to sustainable growth
and energy security, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar expresses its
support for initiatives such as the Gemini Wind Power Project, seen as vital
steps toward clean energy development, local economic growth, and long-term
resilience, while ensuring that the welfare of communities and the protection
of the environment remain top priorities.
