The Department of Agriculture Regional Office 8, in
coordination with the Provincial Government through the Provincial Agriculture
Office continues to distribute essential agricultural inputs to registered
farmers' cooperatives and associations across Northern Samar. The initiative,
under the 2026 National Corn Program, provided corn seeds, cassava planting
materials, and fertilizers aimed at boosting crop yields, improving soil
fertility, enhancing food security, and increasing income opportunities for farmers
in the province.
In its recent distribution, farmers received 175 bags of Hybrid Yellow Corn seeds, 40 bags of Hybrid White Corn seeds, and 40 bags of Open Pollinated Variety (OPV) White Corn seeds, along with 165,000 cassava cuttings distributed across various municipalities. Fertilizer assistance was also provided, consisting of 377 bags of 15-15-30, 368 bags of complete fertilizer, and 340 bags of 20-20-20 fertilizer.
The distribution covered municipalities from both districts
of Northern Samar, including Allen, Biri, Bobon, Catarman, Lavezares, Lope de
Vega, Mondragon, San Isidro, San Jose, Victoria, Catubig, Gamay, Laoang,
Lapinig, Las Navas, Mapanas, Palapag, Pambujan, San Roque, and Silvino Lobos.
The continued implementation of the program underscores the
strong collaboration between DA VIII and the Provincial Government of Northern
Samar, under the leadership of Governor Harris Ongchuan, in advancing
sustainable agriculture, improving production systems, and strengthening the
