Multi-awarded writer and poet, UP Professor Emeritus Merlie Alunan notes how the Provincial Government values culture and arts as part of development
Professor Alunan observed that Northern Samar may be the first local government unit to value language and culture as an integral component of development, such that the Ibabao Festival was a proud celebration of the rich history, culture and heritage of the province.
The good professor apparently referred to the series of arts and culture activities that was spearheaded by the Provincial Government in the recently concluded provincial founding anniversary. From the Ibabao Writers' Workshop to the iPop Music Festival, Ibabao Heritage Conference and Exhibit (Pamana), Festival of Festivals Competition and the Float Parade, among others, the Provincial Government reflected that literature, arts and culture matter as much as tourism, sports, health, agriculture, investment and economic development.
