Northern Samar receives P25.9 million provincial aid from President Marcos Jr.

The Province of Northern Samar received provincial assistance from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. handed over in a ceremony held in Calbayog City yesterday, July 4, 2024.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan received the check amounting to P25.99 million intended as assistance for Northern Samar farmers, fisherfolk and their families affected by the El Niño phenomenon. The other two provinces of Samar Island also received assistance: P50 M for the Province of Samar and P19.3 for Eastern Samar, with a total of P136.30 million in financial assistance distributed to various local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas.

President Marcos Jr. led the distribution of financial assistance under the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk and Families (PAFFF) Program at the Northwest Samar State University in Calbayog City where about 10,000 beneficiaries from the three provinces of Samar Island were invited for the payout. Of the total number, 1,599 beneficiaries under PAFF program were from Northern Samar, it was learned.

Governor Ongchuan joined Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan in welcoming the President, along with Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone, Northern Samar Second District Congressman Harris Ongchuan and other local officials. Meanwhile, President Marcos arrived in Samar with DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Laurel Jr. and Special Assistant to the President Secretary Antonio Lagdameo Jr.
