Northern Samar receives assistance from DOST under its Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program

Governor Edwin Ongchuan, representing the Provincial Government of Northern Samar, received yesterday, February 8, 2023, new livelihood support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the project “Science and Technology Interventions to Empower Selected Communities in the 1st District of Northern Samar”, under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program of the DOST.

DOST Region 8 Director Ernesto M. Granada handed over the check to Governor Ongchuan, intended as livelihood support to rice-producing farmers’ associations from the municipalities of Allen, Biri, Bobon, San Jose, Rosario, Lavezares, Mondragon, and Catarman. Under the project, thirty (30) units of portable solar dryer (portasol) will be provided to ten (10) identified beneficiary associations. 

The project, which aims to build empowered, progressive and resilient communities through science and technology interventions, will be implemented by the Provincial Government through the Provincial Agriculture Office, in coordination with DOST. 

Governor Ongchuan thanked DOST for including Northern Samar in the provision of modern and innovative interventions through the application of science and technology, to benefit our communities. He is optimistic that it will boost the income of farmers in the province, which will contribute to the attainment of our vision of a progressive, resilient and happy Northern Samar. 

Also present during the ceremonial turnover were CEST Regional Coordinator Dr. Ramil T. Uy; Northern Samar Provincial Science and Technology Director, Engr. Veronica E. Laguitan; OIC Provincial Agriculturist, Dr. Jose Luis Acompañado; Lavezares Mayor Edito Saludaga; Ms. Ailene Diaz and Teresita Cardenas of PIA, and DOST Northern Samar personnel.
