In a continuing effort to promote rehabilitation through
creative expression, Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Northern Samar
Provincial Jail in Dancalan, Bobon received art materials on July 23, 2025,
donated by renowned Filipino artists Elmer Misa Borlongan and Plet Borlongan,
and Pasilyo Press.
The donation follows the successful PAMANA Art Workshop held
last May 21, 2025 at the jail facility, led by none other than the “Father of
Art Workshops,” Maestro Fernando Sena. Deeply moved by the experience, Maestro
Sena reached out to fellow artists and former students in Luzon who responded
generously by donating high-quality art supplies for the PDLs. Maestro Sena
also brought arts materials for the PDLs during the PAMANA Art Workshop.
Vice Governor Clarence Dato, himself an art enthusiast,
personally supervised the turnover of materials which included sketch pads,
paintbrushes, and coloring sets.
The benevolent gesture aims to encourage PDLs to develop
their artistic talents while serving their sentence. Through art, they can find
personal healing, inspiration, and even the potential for livelihood upon
reintegration into society.
As a heartfelt expression of gratitude, the PDLs showcased
their original artworks and performed a song dedicated to the generous donors
and those who continue to support their transformation.
Following the turnover, Vice Governor Dato, accompanied by
Jail Management Officer, Ret. PCAPT Carlito Dela Rosa conducted a brief
inspection of the jail facility and engaged in dialogue with PDLs.
The initiative is strongly backed by the leadership of
Governor Harris Ongchuan, reflecting his administration’s commitment to
championing programs that uphold restorative justice and human dignity. The
message is clear: through art, even those behind bars can begin to paint a
brighter, and more hopeful future.
