PGNS Sportsfest 2024: Forging Camaraderie, Solidarity and Strength

In a vibrant display of solidarity and teamwork, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS) officially kicked off the PGNS Sportsfest 2024 today, October 7, 2024.

“Diri importante an pagmalakadaog o an pagkapirde, an importante nagkakasarayo kit. Ini nga Sportsfest mao an team building nato san bug-os nga PGNS family,” Governor Edwin Ongchuan remarked, emphasizing that the program is designed to foster camaraderie, strengthen bonds, and promote the well-being among employees and staff of the Provincial Government. He then urged the teams to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the games.

Eight teams, representing various departments and offices, are set to compete in the different sport events—from ball games to board games.

Vice Governor Clarence Dato, chair of the PGNS Sportsfest 2024 committee, officially declared the opening of the games, bringing vibrant cheers to an excited crowd.

Symbolic of the solidarity of the PGNS teams, Governor Ongchuan and Vice Governor Dato led the board members and department heads in the ceremonial lighting of the PGNS Sportsfest 2024 solidarity torch, joined by last year’s Basketball MVP, Mr. Vincent Florano.

The PGNS Sportsfest opening ceremony was capped with the badminton exhibition match between the Governor’s son, Emil Ongchuan II teamed up with Lance Arias, silver medalist in last year’s PGNS Sportsfest versus the reigning badminton champions, Cassius Amores and Ariel Acibar. The match added excitement to the opening festivities, showcasing both the competitive spirit and unity that define the PGNS Sportsfest.

The Sportsfest is part of Governor Ongchuan and the Provincial Government’s commitment to safeguard the health and well-being of its workforce, particularly against the rising trend of lifestyle-related diseases. By promoting an active lifestyle and mental wellness, the Provincial Government aims to ensure that its employees remain healthy and productive in their roles.

The PGNS Sportsfest will run from October 7 to 20, 2024, featuring 8 main sports events: basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, scrabble, quiz bee, and mobile legends.

The stage is set for a season of friendly competition, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments.
