Australian Expedition Visits One of Northern Samar's Treasured Protected Areas: The Lalaguna Mangrove Eco Park

On October 30, 2024, around 43 international tourists from an Australian expedition aboard an international cruise ship visited the serene green mangroves and clear waters of the Lalaguna Mangrove Eco Park, a protected area in Lavezares, Northern Samar.

This 300-hectare eco-park is home to vibrant mangroves, crystal-clear waters abundant with fish, crabs, and sea urchins, as well as wild monkeys.

The tourists were warmly welcomed by Mayor Edito Saludaga, members of the Lalaguna Mangrove Eco Park Association (formerly the Women’s Association for Inter-Island Development), Municipal Tourism Officer Jasmine Balag-Abueza, representatives from the Department of Tourism Region 8, and the Provincial Tourism Office of Northern Samar. Local community members also joined the reception.

Visitors climbed the park's 239 steps to a hilltop, where they enjoyed panoramic views of the mangrove forest below. They strolled along a bamboo-and-concrete boardwalk, which brought them close to the lush mangroves, creating an unforgettable experience. Alongside the natural beauty, guests savored local culinary specialties.

This event highlights the Provincial Government of Northern Samar’s ongoing efforts to boost tourism, paving the way for a thriving future in local eco-tourism.
