Governor Edwin Ongchuan urges the public to get treatment against leptospirosis
"Huwag na nating antayin pa na makaramdam ng mga sintomas ng leptospirosis, agad na magtungo sa inyong mga RHUs para sa agarang lunas. Lahat na lumusong sa baha, should take the medication," he advises.
Leptospirosis is a rare bacterial infection that, if untreated, can cause death to both people and animals. It can be transmitted from animals to humans when an unhealed skin break comes into contact with water or soil contaminated with infected animal urine.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Aurora Dubongco-Vicencio assured the Governor that the province has sufficient supplies of prophylaxis, or leptospirosis treatment, which have already been delivered to RHUs in all flood-affected municipalities. These medicines are free.
Tropical Depression Enteng brought flooding in many areas in the province which makes flood-affected communities vulnerable to leptospirosis.
