Strengthening community linkages through the Hurohimangraw sa Kapitolyo

Today, July 18, 2024, Governor Edwin Ongchuan reiterated the need for barangays to actively respond to the needs of the communities by accessing programs and resources from the national government, alongside the Provincial Government and the Barangay Local Government Units.

With Vice Governor Clarence Dato, Governor Ongchuan was happy to hear communities raise their concerns through their elected representatives, the punong barangays during the Hurohimangraw sa Kapitolyo held earlier today at the Governor’s Residence in Catarman.

From disaster preparedness to education issues, both top officials of the province eagerly shared advice to the barangay officials how they can realize their dream projects for their constituents.

“This is the most opportune time for you, local leaders, to raise your concerns to Governor Edwin and to my office. We are here to listen to your development plans and issues,” Vice Governor Dato said, echoing the Governor’s encouraging words for local officials to speak up, and aggressively pursue development programs as well as good governance practices.

“The highest mark of good governance is the DILG’s seal of good local governance for barangays (SGLG-B) which you should all aim. Those barangays which will receive the seal will be rewarded by the Provincial Government,” Governor Ongchuan pledged. He promised a P1-million incentive for SGLG-B awardees to help support their development initiatives in their communities.

The gathering concluded with light-hearted exchanges, friendly games and well wishes for the group who were celebrating their birthday this month of July.

Joining Governor Ongchuan and Vice Governor Dato in the event were Catubig Vice Mayor Galahad Vicencio, Emil Ongchuan II, PDRRM Officer Rei Josiah Echano and Provincial Population Office head, Mr. Jessie Ymata.
