Provincial Government discusses further upskilling human resources and advancing education through establishment of a Community College

A bold step to help develop the skills of Nortehanons and at the same time, respond to the needs of the local economy, the Provincial Government is embarking on another remarkable strategy, the establishment of a provincial community college.

In a brainstorming meeting recently held at the SP Session Hall, the members of the Technical Working Group exchanged insightful ideas on how the Provincial Government will go about with this another novel venture.

“The process may be lengthy and tedious, but it is certainly a sensible move on the part of the Provincial Government.  This will provide increased opportunity to develop the skills of our fellow Nortehanons in fields that will make them employable, even in the local setting.  We can later on refer our community college graduates to the NS PESO for job facilitation,” Mr. Jhon Allen Berbon, head of the Provincial Economic Development and Investment Promotions, said.  “Related to this, we can also push for the establishment of a farm school attached to the community college to maximize the use of our Galutan Training facility and the Provincial Government-owned Libas Farm Estate” he raised.

The other members of the team likewise shared significant inputs such as initially focusing on short-term courses to provide immediate opportunity for local employment mentioning social work, nursing attendant, agriculture, midwifery and similar in-demand skilled labor courses.

The aim is to complement the existing courses in local schools, and offer short-term study to those who need to work immediately after school, especially the underprivileged in the community, the TWG agreed, proposing a ladderized approach in the course offerings which will be made available for free to interested students.

With the plan and the process yet to be refined, the group were one in the resolve to pursue Governor Edwin Ongchuan and the Provincial Government’s endeavor to develop the province’s human resources which will ultimately contribute to the economic and overall development of the province.
Actively participating in the brainstorming meeting were Provincial Accountant Atty. Mary Grace Royo, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Adah Gwyn Tobes, OIC Secretary to the SP Bernard Balanquit, Culture and Arts Coordinator Carl Bordeos, Administrative Officer V Amelita Norona, HRMD Officer IV Ma. Teresita Gacusan  and NSPESO Manager Maurice de Guia.
