The enchanting interior of the ancient retablo located in the church of Laoang, Northern Samar, before it underwent renovations in the 1970s. This remarkable piece of craftsmanship was originally constructed under the guidance of Fray Sebastian Moraleda ó de Almonacid, OFM, between the years 1848 and 1852. Subsequently, it was rebuilt by Fray Eusebio Ibañez, OFM, from 1874 to 1878 after a devastating fire razed the old church and convent to the ground. The retablo was further adorned and enhanced by Fray Aquilino Majuelo, OFM, between 1892 and 1893.
The photograph captures a significant moment in the retablo's history, taken during the Canta Misa celebrated by Reverend Father Agripino Osal in the early 1900s. It provides a glimpse into the magnificence and grandeur of the retablo before its eventual renovation, showcasing the intricate details and masterful artistry that were admired by generations of Catholics.
