More than 100 parents and guardians who have family members with disabilities gathered for the 5th AKAPIN General Assembly on September 18, 2026, at the Capitol Gym in Catarman, Northern Samar.
The annual gathering, organized by the Provincial Government
of Northern Samar (PGNS) through the Persons with Disability Affairs Office
(PDAO) in partnership with AKAPIN Northern Samar Inc., together with Norfil
Foundation provided families with an opportunity to access essential government
services, learn about available programs, and connect with fellow parents and
guardians of persons with disabilities.
Participants were provided with various services during the
assembly, including:
• PhilHealth — membership registration, ID printing, and
orientation on the YAKAP Program
• Provincial Health Office
— free medicines
— Distribution of kits, bags, tumblers, and pillows for PWD
participants
• Norfil Foundation — Groceries and sacks of rice
Beyond the delivery of services, the assembly also featured
the products and best practices of AKAPIN members from different local
government units, giving members an opportunity to showcase their skills,
initiatives, and contributions to their respective communities.
On behalf of Governor Harris Ongchuan, Vice Governor
Clarence Dato conveyed his message of support to AKAPIN members, parents, and
guardians, recognizing their important role in providing care, support, and
opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The 5th AKAPIN General Assembly served as a meaningful
gathering of families, government offices, and PWD advocates, highlighting the
continued efforts to bring essential services closer to PWDs and the families
who care for them.
Through initiatives such as this, the Provincial Government
of Northern Samar, through PDAO, continues to strengthen inclusive programs and
services that promote the welfare, participation, and empowerment of persons
with disabilities and their families.
