The Provincial Government through the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital, was recently recognized by the Department of Health Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (EVCHD Region VIII) for its outstanding initiatives in health facility administration.
Marked as a 4 star-awardee in the Green Viability Assessment (GVA), NSPH was recognized for its good practices in keeping a green and safe health facility. The assessment includes areas in governance, energy efficiency, water efficiency, healthcare waste management, environmentally resilient facility, material sustainability and indoor environmental quality. The Green Viability Assessment System of the DOH is aimed at achieving a climate resilient and environmentally sustainable health facilities in the country.
On top of the GVA award, the NSPH was also recognized for commendable practices and outstanding functionality of its Public Health Unit (PHU), an additional part of NSPH operations which started during the pandemic. The PHU is responsible in facilitating the treatment of patients transferred from NSPH to higher level hospitals, and coordinating patient referrals from RHUs and district hospitals to NSPH, among others. It also focuses on preventing illnesses, implementing health education programs and promoting the health and well-being of the community. The team, led by the NSPH chief of hospital, its dedicated nursing services staff, drivers, patient referral and transportation dispatch officers, and strongly supported by the administrative department, the PHO and the Provincial Government leadership, were instrumental in this remarkable achievement.
The awards were conferred during the Hospital Summit on October 25, 2024 in Tacloban City, received by Dr. Joseph Estanislao, chief of hospital, and Ms. Cesarith Hernandez, NSPH PHU unit head.
These recognitions demonstrate the commitment of the Provincial Government under Governor Edwin Ongchuan’s administration, its health officials through the Provincial Health Office and the NSPH team in enhancing hospital operations and public health service delivery.
