As the province strengthens its peace efforts, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar has completed the expansion of the Darangpan Center in Barangay Dalakit, Catarman. This expansion includes the construction of an additional two-storey building to accommodate more surrenderrees in the province.
The Darangpan Center, a halfway house for peacebuilders, has catered to approximately 200 surrenderers since 2019. It was established to provide essential programs and assistance to those who have chosen to return to the folds of the law while undergoing reintegration within the center.
The P12-million project, funded under the Supplemental Budget, includes facilities such as comfort rooms, lighting, a water tank, a generator set, and a ramp. These amenities are crucial for ensuring the comfort of the peacebuilders as they participate in the deradicalization program and enhance the services provided to former rebels inside the center.
On October 14, 2024, the Provincial Government Inspectorate Team conducted the final inspection to ensure that the project was constructed according to plan and complies with infrastructure standards.
To ensure that the welfare of the peacebuilders is given prime importance, the Provincial Government of Northern Samar under the active leadership of Governor Ongchuan provides them a better shelter while in the process of healing and recovering through enhancing the infrastructures intended for them.
