THE SOURCE || Ibàbaonons and early Bisayans were tattooed men described as "maiisog."

Tattoos were symbols of male valor, applied only after a man had performed in battle with fitting courage and, like modern military decorations, they were accumulated with additional feats. Meaning, they were not performed all in one sitting but in installments.

With the success of the Pamana 2024 exhibit of the national costume of Catriona Gray in the Province of Northern Samar, a first for Samar Island, Mark Timothy Apura, one of 2 conservators of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) who visited the province, said, "It was an honor to be part of the successful event."

Apura continued, "this achievement highlighted the profound importance of preserving and celebrating the Ibàbaonon Heritage and Culture."

Events such as the Pamana 2024 is vital in keeping history alive, reinforcing the value of cultural heritage, and ensuring that the next generations appreciate and continue what we have started at the present as rich traditions of the province.
