Senator Bong Go visits Northern Samar, distributes aid

Senator Christopher "Bong” Go personally extended support to residents of Northern Samar during his visit to the province on Tuesday, July 16.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan, Vice Governor Clarence Dato and Catarman Vice Mayor Francisco “Jun” Rosales Jr., graciously received the guest Senator who went to see the Malasakit Center at the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman.

Dubbed as Mr. Malasakit, Senator Go who is also the chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged the community to visit Northern Samar's Malasakit Center at NSPH.

One of the objectives of his visit, Senator Go and his Malasakit Team distributed essential support to 948 residents at the Catarman Freedom Park Covered Court.  These included food packs, snacks, vitamins, facemasks, shirts, sling bags, basketballs, and volleyballs. 

In his message, he commended the efforts of local leaders with whom he collaborated to extend support to needy sectors, including Congressman Paul A. Daza, Congressman Harris Christopher Ongchuan, Governor Ongchuan, Vice Governor Dato, and Vice Mayor Rosales, among others.

First established in 2018, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that brings together concerned agencies to provide particularly poor and indigent patients with access to medical assistance programs. Currently, the program has established 166 Malasakit Centers nationwide, which was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, which Go principally sponsored and authored.

On the same day, Senator Go also provided aid to indigents in Silvino Lubos and visited the Catarman Public Market which reconstruction he also supported as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.   

The Senator is also advocating for expanding access to primary medical services through the establishment of Super Health Centers nationwide. With the support of fellow lawmakers, local government units, and DOH, funds were allocated for more than 700 Super Health Centers, including seven in Northern Samar.
